What is the Bank of England stress test? The Bank of England conducts an annual health check of the UK banking system.
The checks were devised as a reaction to the 2008 banking crisis and the first test was held in 2014.
Each year the Bank tests how the banking system and individual lenders would react to a hypothetical economic crisis based on policymakers’ assessment of the state and financial cycle.
The severity of the scenarios is designed to vary year to year, with the assessment based on domestic and global indicators.
