Today commemorates 950 years since The Battle of Hastings, but did the Normans do more for the English thank we think?
Historians have been debating whether there were more gains for the English than originally analysed in the Norman-French victory.
The battle in 1066 led to a succession crisis following King Edward's death on January 5 and overall it was bloody, brutal and a period of suppression of the English.
But some academics now argue the Normans left a more positive mark by eradicating slavery and teaching the English some manners!
