A loose pass straight from Gibraltar’s kick-off allowed the Belgian striker to intercept with ease and shimmy past the last defender before striking home from close distance.
The lightning strike from the Crystal Palace forward beat the previous record set by San Marino’s Davide Gualtieri, who scored against England in 1993.
He hit the back of the net after 8.3 seconds after jumping on a loose back pass to David Seaman from Stuart Pearce.
Benteke went on to bag a hat-trick as Belgium thrashed Gibraltar 6-0 on Monday night.
