Watch as the new bridge over the River Wear in Sunderland takes shape

The new bridge over the River Wear in Sunderland came a big step closer to completion today.
A 10-hour operation saw the first part of the New Wear Crossing, weighing in at around 2500 tonnes, being moved into place.
A section of the bridge deck, which stretches about one third of the way over the river, is held in place by temporary supports built into the riverbed.
A team of around 40 workers were involved in the complex procedure of slowly moving the deck out over the water using hydraulic jacks.
