Grass can seem quite old-school these days both for Rachel and Joe Horler and their 85-strong dairy herd in Somerset and beef and sheep farmer Simon Bainbridge in Northumberland as they walk fields of soil and nutrient-friendly chicory, lucerne and clover.
By dramatically changing their grazing methods, “the days when we were hostage to the fortunes of imported seed prices are over.
