Volcano erupts in Japan coating whole cities in layer of ash
 

Mount Aso in southern Japan erupted, sending huge plumes of grey smoke almost seven miles into the air.
It is one of the volcano’s biggest explosions in years – and it left buildings and cars covered with thick layers of ash.
The Japan Meteorological Agency said the explosion, which happened in the early hours of Saturday morning, blew bits of volcanic rock and ash.
The alert level for the area was raised, and the entry ban was extended from just around the volcanic mouth to the entire mountain itself.
