Violent inmate threw boiling water in face of prison guard at HMP Northumberland
 

A prison guard at a troubled jail was left with burned and blistered skin when a violent inmate threw boiling water in his face for no reason.
Mark Smith hurled the stinging hot liquid at Michael Wilson as he helped another inmate contact his girlfriend as she gave birth.
A court heard he shouted ‘b******’ to attract Mr Wilson’s attention as he sat at a computer in an office at HMP Northumberland, then launched his unprovoked attack.
The victim was left in “searing pain” and believes it was only the fact he was wearing glasses that prevented him being blinded.
