Victim of crash on the Smiler at Alton Towers welcomes £5 million fine for owner Merlin Attractions
 

A victim of the Alton Towers' Smiler rollercoaster crash has welcomed the "justice" of a £5 million fine imposed on the theme park's operator.
The fine – believed to be the largest ever of its kind for a leisure industry company – was imposed on Merlin Attractions for a "catastrophic failure" of health and safety rules over the crash.
Two teenagers - Vicky Balch, then 19, and Leah Washington, then 17 - could have bled to death from their injuries and each ended up losing a leg after the collision in June last year.
