Almost 3,000 jobs lost as Icahn pulls plug
BILLIONAIRE Carl Icahn closed the Trump Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City yesterday, 26 years after his friend Donald Trump opened it, calling it “the eighth wonder of the world.”
Nearly 3,000 workers lost their jobs, bringing the total from five casino closures in the New Jersey resort to 11,000 since 2014.
The reason given for closure was that management had failed to reach a deal with its unionised workers to restore healthcare and pension benefits taken away from them in bankruptcy court.
