UK's top shares on longest winning streak ever as FTSE 100 index notches up tenth consecutive record close



London's top shares are in the midst of their longest winning streak on record after twelve consecutive days of rises for the FTSE 100 index.
The ten most recent of those set new records for the blue-chip index and today was the latest with a gain of 15 points to 7,290.5. The Footsie kicked off its record streak on 21 December, when it opened at 7,044.
The market was driven higher today by mining companies, with metal prices on the rise, and by retailers following more better-than-expected Christmas sales figures.
