UK prisons set free 71 inmates in error



As many as 71 prisoners have been released in error over the last year.
Dozens of offenders were released in error in 2016/17 in England and Wales.
According to official figures, it is the highest number in any year since current records started in 2006/7.
The mistakes have been uncovered as violence in jails surged to a new high, official figures reveal.
It means inmates were let out because of blunders at a rate of more than one a week in the UK.
