Minicab company defends ‘exploitative’ practices at tribunal
EMBATTLED minicab firm Uber faced further accusations of exploiting vulnerable workers yesterday as the transnational appealed against a ruling on employment rights for its drivers.
Two of its drivers, James Farrar and Yaseen Aslam, won a landmark case against Uber last year entitling them to the minimum wage, sick pay and paid leave.
Challenging the ruling at an employment appeals tribunal hearing in London yesterday, Uber said drivers were technically self-employed as they were under no obligation to work and never have been.... read more
