U-boat at centre of sea monster mystery uncovered near Stranraer



THIS could be the final resting place of German U-boat UB85, the star of the strangest story of World War I.
In 1918, after the Royal Navy caught him on the surface off the Scottish coast and sank his sub, UB85’s captain Gunther Krech gave an astounding explanation for why he had failed to dive and escape.
He told British interrogators he could not submerge because his vessel had been damaged – in an attack by a giant sea monster.
Now engineers laying a £1billion power cable from Scotland to England believe they have found UB85 on the seabed off Stranraer.
