Two people swept out to sea at Whitley Bay in 'horrendous' conditions
 

Two people were swept into the sea in “horrendous” conditions.
Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade were called to the seafront at Whitley Bay at around 2.30am on Sunday.
A 19-year-old man, who rescuers described as acting “drunk”, along with a 22-year-old woman, were swept 20ft out to sea but managed to get back to shore safely.
Five friends were also put at risk as they attempted to rescue the man.
