Twitter's bitter struggle: The social media giant is in never-never land... but investors shouldn't abandon hope just yet, says ALEX BRUMMER

Navigating the digital economy may not be as easy as it looks. 
Snapchat, the photo-messaging app, has garnered 150million users and is limbering up for an initial public offering which could value it at an astonishing £19.5billion.
At the other end of the spectrum, that great media favourite Twitter finds itself in never-never land. 
Last month it looked as if its founder, chief executive Jack Dorsey, had discovered an escape hatch with speculation of a bidding war by other Californian giants.
