Travel broadens the mind and develops meaty ideas



A claim that there are large gains to be made in selecting cattle and sheep for their efficiency in converting food has been made by Neil McGowan, of Incheoch, Alyth, a third-generation livestock farmer.
In his Nuffield Scholars’ report, which has just been published, McGowan says that too much emphasis has been placed on maximising outputs and not enough on minimising inputs, especially reducing feed costs.
