Transgender weightlifter Laurel Hubbard withdraws from Commonwealth Games after suffering elbow injury attempting 130kg lift

Transgender weightlifter Laurel Hubbard has been forced to withdraw from the Commonwealth Games while leading her category because of an elbow injury.
The New Zealander, 39, has been one of the most discussed athletes at the Games owing to her transition to female on the back of competing as a male until the age of 35.
Figures from the Australian and Samoan teams had gone public to object to Hubbard's participation and status as pre-event favourite.
