Tranmere Rovers in talks with former Shrewsbury Town boss Micky Mellon over vacant managerial role 



Tranmere Rovers are to open talks with Micky Mellon over becoming their new manager.
The Scot left League One Shrewsbury Town by mutual consent on Thursday along with assistant Mike Jackson.
Mellon, 44, guided Shrewsbury to promotion from League Two in 2014-15, his first season in charge, but they finished 20th to avoid relegation the following year and he has come under increasing pressure from supporters in recent weeks.
Tranmere, who sacked Gary Brabin last month, have won just once in seven games to drop to ninth in the National League.
