Traditional Leicester family businesses - then and now



At first glance, because it is cropped tight, this photo could be of any street in Leicester.
Yet, if you look at its sloping angle and the buildings at the top of the street, it's soon apparent we are looking at Church Gate, in March 1962.
More than half a century later, most of the buildings are still with us and even more impressively, the business in the foreground, Green's jewellers, is also still in business.
Established in 1885, this must be one of our longest-surviving commercial enterprises.
