Traders oppose move to increase town's parking charges by up to 80 per cent



Plans to increase parking charges in a county town are being opposed by its chamber of trade.
Harborough District Council is looking to almost double some of the charges at its car parks in Market Harborough.
The proposals are set to go out to public consultation before the new tariffs are introduced.
But more than 30 local businesses unanimously said the proposed parking rises were a bad idea for the town at a recent meeting.
An estimated 10,000 people opposed the introduction of parking charges in Market Harborough at Lutterworth by the Liberal Democrat-run council in October 2004.
