Labour pledge to build public-sector homes will widen inequality,’ says minister
SENIOR Tories trumpeted a pledge to give a £5 billion boost to homeownership yesterday after claiming that Labour plans to build around 500,000 council homes would “increase inequality.”
Chancellor Philip Hammond and Communities Secretary Sajid Javid announced at the Conservative Party conference that a new homebuilding fund would be created to provide £3bn for the construction of 25,500 homes on “brownfield” land in the next four years.
