Topps Tiles blames bad weather, timing of Easter and consumer gloom for decline in sales



Specialist flooring and tiling retailer Topps Tiles has blamed a mix of poor weather, earlier Easter and a 'challenging' trading environment for a slump in second-quarter sales.
Like-for-like sales fell 2.2 per cent in the three months to the end of March, which acted as a drag on the figure for first half - with sales up by just 0.6 per cent in the period.
It comes as Topps Tiles is one of the many British retailers to be suffering from consumers cutting out on purchases as their finances are squeezed by inflation and stagnating wages.
