Thumbs-up from attacker with 23 convictions who repeatedly hit victim over the head with a chair



A DRUNKEN yob who inflicted "hideous" injuries to a man after repeatedly striking him over the head with a chair was "lucky" not to face a murder charge.
Andrew Thornton, 37, gave a thumbs-up to the public gallery as he was sentenced for three years after pleading guilty to GBH with intent following an attack on Daniel Weeks.
Judge David Tremberg told Thornton he was fortunate that he was not facing a more serious charge of homicide after the vicious attack, which left the complainant needing 20 stitches to his head.
