Thieves targeting SSI site that costs '£200,000 per month' to keep safe
 

The Gazette Cable thieves are targeting the former SSI site just months after the closure of Redcar blast furnace.
Cleveland Police received a report of an attempted theft of cable at the 1,798-acre site on May 4.
It comes after Teesside’s Labour MPs raised concerns over the staggering cost of currently maintaining the prime industrial site - estimated by unions at over £200,000 a week.
The former SSI works have been left idle since the Thai company went into liquidation in October, and much of the land is contaminated.
The clean-up bill has been estimated at more than a billion pounds.... read more
