The former Southampton prodigy, now veteran of more than 200 Premier League games, scored twice in an impressive Arsenal victory over Basle the day after Allardyce's departure, taking his tally for the season to four goals in seven games.
Equally significantly, he has started all of those games and played 90 minutes for the majority of them.
No doubt Arsene Wenger would like to take much of the credit, but could Allardyce in fact be the man responsible for this apparent rebirth?
