It is clear why Kemp Powers’ story of a historic night in a Miami motel has been garlanded with awards since its US premiere in 2013. The date is February 25, 1964 and four men banter and argue their way through their positions on America’s racial divide.
They are political firebrand Malcolm X (Francois Battiste), soul singer Sam Cooke (Arinzé Kene), NFL star and actor Jim Brown (David Ajala) and a 22-year-old Cassius Clay (Sope Dirisu), fresh from beating Sonny Liston to become the world heavyweight boxing champion.
