The troubled Gateshead housing estate that that stood for just 25 years
 

The North East is littered with 1960s and 70s housing experiments that failed - and this is one of them.
However well-intentioned St Cuthbert’s Village in Gateshead was, it stood for just 25 years before the last bulldozers moved in.
Our superb collection of gritty images depicting the estate comes once again from photographer Trevor Ermel who has spent the last five decades capturing photographs of the changing landscapes of urban Tyneside.
St Cuthbert’s Village was built on the steep North-facing incline of Windmill Hills overlooking the River Tyne.
