Forty per cent of parents who ask for flexible working hours are being "penalised" by their employers, a report has warned.
Many were given fewer hours, worse shifts and even losing their job, after making the request.
And more than half of those working in low-paid sectors such as retail and hospitality are not aware of their employment rights when it comes to caring for a dependant.
Many were unaware of 'unpaid parental leave', a TUC investigation found.
