Oscar Wilde's 1895 comedy is such a staple of regional (and national) theatre that it's easy to be accustomed to the memorable quotes – and there are many – at the expense of the frankly rather silly story.
It would also be easy to get overly-academic about the piece: class, the roles of women in society, sexual politics, marriage, morality, hypocrisy.
