A Labour councillor says he has quit his Masonic Lodge after being wrongly accused of posting on Facebook that members of the organisation are racist.
Howard Balkind, who represents Swinton South ward on Salford council, has been a member of the Masons for 30 years.
But he says he has left after and unfounded allegation that he had claimed on social media that Masons were racist.
He says the incident came after his unsuccessful request for financial help from the organisation towards the high cost of caring for his ill father.
