Thailand's king dies aged 88 leaving Queen Elizabeth as the world's longest-reigning monarch
 

THAILAND'S King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who was the world's longest-reigning monarch, has died in hospital.
Palace officials did not give a reason for his death. He was 88 years old.
A palace spokesman said: "His Majesty has passed away at Siriraj Hospital peacefully."
His son and heir apparent, the 63-year old Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, is expected to become Thailand's new king.
During a reign that spanned 70 years, the US-born Bhumibol became much more than Thailand's constitutional monarch. He was the nation's one constant as myriad governments rose and fell.
