Teeming Tokyo? Go for there for peace and quiet at the city's secret serene spots including sushi bars and public parks



Calm and restful? Surely I can't be talking about Tokyo? 
And yet this city of so many skyscrapers, surging freeways and pulsing neon lights departs from its generally accepted profile of flat-out activity in a surprising number of tranquil enclaves. 
Their serenity is the best proof Tokyo need not be overwhelming to the first time visitor. 
There are parks, gardens and shrines scattered like green jewels throughout the nation's commercial heart - or should we say hearts, as this is a series of smaller cities that merged into today's giant metropolis long ago.
