Taxi rank assault leaves man in hospital
 

A MAN is in hospital in Newcastle with head injuries after being assaulted at a Carlisle taxi rank.
The 25-year-old from Carlisle was assaulted during the early hours of Saturday morning, at about 1.45am, at the rank near to the city's railway station.
Police say he suffered head injuries and was taken to hospital in Newcastle.
A 27-year-old man from Carlisle was arrested at the scene.
Officers say they believe the victim was involved in an earlier altercation where a female was assaulted.
They are appealing to come forward. Call Carlisle Police on 101.
