Former head coach Stuart Lancaster believes England’s humiliating pool stage exit from last year’s World Cup was a major factor behind the Aviva Premiership’s strongest European Cup showing ever.
Premiership clubs made up five of the eight quarter-final spots, three out of four semi-final slots as Saracens went on to claim their first-ever European Cup crown as they beat French giants Clermont in the final in Lyon on May 14.
