Stand up for Britain’s savers, Mr Hammond, says JEFF PRESTRIDGE



Savers will have drawn a wee dram of comfort from Theresa May’s conference speech last Wednesday when she indicated help (at long last) would soon be at hand for those who have suffered from seven years of low interest rates.
What assistance we don’t quite know yet – we will have to wait for Philip Hammond’s debut Autumn Statement on November 23 for the precise details – but May’s recognition that savers have paid a heavy price after the terrible financial crisis of 2008 is a welcome step. Wee tots all round.
