Special award for husband and wife team who have devoted lives to protecting nature
 

A husband and wife team who have spent nearly 50 years between them working to protect nature have won a conservation award just days before their retirement.
Chris and Heather McCarty, who live at Newbiggin in County Durham, worked side by side at Natural England’s Moor House - Upper Teesdale National Nature Reserve (NNR).
At 8,800 hectares, split between County Durham and Cumbria, it is one of the biggest NNRs in England.
