Spanish art 'centre of excellence' could lure 430,000 visitors annually to North East town
 

A university, a castle and a bank have joined forces to create “a world-class beacon of excellence for the study of Spanish and Latin American art and culture” in the North East.
Durham University and the Auckland Castle Trust have entered into a partnership to create The Zurbarán Centre for Spanish and Latin American Art, a £1.6m facility to be located at 10 Market Place, Bishop Auckland.
The initiative is being supported by Spanish bank Santander with a £600,000 grant to be paid over three years to Durham University, its largest single donation to a British university.
