South Tyneside and Sunderland health care public talks - path to excellence or closure?



More than 300 people attended the first phase of a major public consultation exercise over controversial plans for the future of South Tyneside and Sunderland health provision.
Called ‘The Path to Excellence’, it was launched on July 5 and will run until October 15.
It is focusing on certain areas of hospital care delivered at South Tyneside District Hospital and Sunderland Royal Hospital. These include:
• Stroke care services
• Maternity (obstetrics) and women’s healthcare services (inpatient gynaecology)
• Urgent and emergency paediatric services
