Social worker suspended for obstructing child abuse probe in St Helens
 

A social worker was suspended for obstructing an investigation into alleged child abuse in St Helens.
John Barrie Arnold was suspended for four months after a watchdog heard he obstructed a social services probe into alleged child abuse being carried out by St Helens council. He later tried to “unduly influence” the outcome of the inquiry into a man who allegedly posed a risk to children.
Arnold, who worked for Blackburn and Darwen council, was contacted by social workers in St Helens who were leading the investigation.
He refused to hand over the information they asked for.
