Snow hits Greater Manchester: Roads shut, and drivers warned as showers and sub-zero temperatures cause problems - live updates



Sleet and snow showers lashed parts of Greater Manchester as a polar blast gripped the north of Britain.
An official Met Office warning over icy conditions remained in force across the region on Saturday morning and police were forced to close a number of rural roads.
Driving conditions were described by police as treacherous, with a number of road traffic collisions reported.
Snow settled on higher ground in parts of Oldham, Rochdale and Tameside.
