Silhouettes of soldiers bought by Mercian Regiment museum
 

A unique 200-year-old pictorial record of army officers from Nottingham was a highlight at a Mellors & Kirk auction last month when it sold for almost £2,300, writes Nigel Kirk.
It was an album of silhouette portraits of 30 soldiers and, occasionally, their wives and children.
Outwardly, there was no hint of what the album contained. Bound in vellum boards that showed all of their age, turning the front cover revealed all.
