Shake-up of betting shops in Scunthorpe after merger



The betting shop industry in Scunthorpe is set for a major shake-up following the decision of the newly-merged Ladbrokes and Coral group to sell off more than 350 branches.
North Lincolnshire's biggest bookies BetFred are to buy 322 shops for £55 million and rivals Stan James will purchase 37 sites for £500,000.
As part of the £2.3 billion merge, the new group has been told to off sell sites to ensure it does not monoplise towns like Scunthorpe.
Ladbrokes and Coral has so far not named the shops to be sold.
But the combined group currently operates eight outlets in North Lincolnshire.
