Setback for Australia same-sex marriage vote

Australian opposition MPs have said they will block the prime minister's plan to hold a national vote on legalising same-sex marriage.
Malcolm Turnbull wants to hold a non-binding ballot, or plebiscite, next year on whether the law should change.
Opponents say a national ballot is a waste of money and could unleash a wave of homophobia. Labor says parliament should make the decision.
Without opposition support the vote plan is unlikely to pass the senate.
Mr Turnbull has not yet said whether he will allow a parliamentary vote instead, meaning the issue is unlikely to be resolved soon.
