See design chosen by the public for new North Shields sculpture to honour fishermen lost at sea
 

This remarkable design has been chosen to create a permanent memorial to North East fishermen lost at sea.
Eight proposals were initially shortlisted for the monument in North Shields and members of the public were given a chance to pick their favourite.
More than 2,000 people took part in the vote.
And now the design by County Durham artist Ray Lonsdale has been revealed as the winner, with 47% of all votes.
Ray was the man behind the famous Tommy solider sculpture in Seaham.
