Scientists create a molecule that mimics the effects of exercise – and say it could pave the way for new drug to 'help treat obesity and type 2 diabetes'

It is the holy grail in the quest to combat obesity - a drug that mimics the effects of a workout.
But scientists at the University of Southampton believe they are one step closer to making the dream a reality.
They have developed a new molecule, dubbed 'compound 14', that they hope will pave the way for new treatments for type 2 diabetes and obesity.
The secret lies in compound 14's ability to trick the body's cells into thinking they have run out of energy.
It inhibits the function of a cellular enzyme called ATIC, which is involved in metabolism, leading to a build-up of a molecule... read more
