Schoolgirl airlifted to hospital after being knocked down by car in Barrow

A girl, believed to be of secondary school age, has been involved in a collision with a Kia in Friars Lane this afternoon.
The incident happened at 3.30pm and the North West Air Ambulance Service was called to the scene.
A spokeswoman from the North West Ambulance Service said the girl had sustained numerous injuries.
The Evening Mail understands the plan is to airlift the girl to Alder Hey in Liverpool.
Police say Friars Lane between Monks Brow and Provincial Street will be closed for some time.
Motorists have been asked to avoid the area.
