A boy was left paralysed and fighting for his life after a football hit his head during a kickabout with friends.
Owen Mathieson, 14, had a swelling above his eye and suffered from severe headaches in the days after the freak accident in July.
He had a high temperature and a ­sensitivity to light – but doctors said he had suffered a concussion and the headaches would fade.
Owen was given painkillers and sent home to Wick from Caithness General Hospital the next morning but his mum Maria, 42, took him back that night as his symptoms worsened.
