Darren Clarke and his flops had nowhere to hide as the United States produced a whitewash of wins in the opening foursomes matches at Hazeltine.
It was the most horrendous start possible for Clarke as he looked to lead Europe to a historic fourth straight win in the competition.
But he was left in total despair after watching Davis Love's men turn on the magic to take a stunning 4-0 lead into the afternoon matches.
Love's men notched their second winning point when Dustin Johnson and Matt Kuchar thrashed Lee Westwood and rookie Thomas Pieters 5 & 4.
