Ryder Cup 2016: Europe off to worst possible start as United States complete foursomes whitewash
 

It was a disastrous opening morning for Europe on day one of the Ryder Cup as the United States stretched to a 4-0 lead in the foursomes to complete the first whitewash since 1981.
Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed notched up the first point for the States at Hazeltine as they got the better of Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose with a 3&2 victory in the earliest round of the session.
Sergio Garcia and Martin Kaymer were then defeated 4&2 by Zach Johnson and Jimmy Walker as the US took a 2-0 advantage to pile further misery on Europe.
