Russia deploys advanced S-300 missile system to Syria to protect against US jet strikes
 

The deployment is a sign that Vladimir Putin is planning to ramp up his operations in the war-ravaged country.
US officials have warned that the weapon system could be used to counter American missile attacks inside Syria.
Parts of the complicated weapon - known as S-300 in Russia or as SA-23 Gladiator by NATO - began arriving in Syria over the weekend at Russia’s Tartus base on the Mediterranean.
The S-300 has a range of around 150 miles and is used to protect against airborne threats as opposed to vehicle and human targets on the ground.
